About the role

Ericsson Research in Kista is seeking a manager to lead the Decision and Control team within the Cyber Physical Systems department. Our team research focus is on the co-design of communication, control, and computation for Cyber Physical Systems, including connected mobile robots, UAVs, autonomous vehicles, and industrial process control systems.

Our mission is to pioneer future applications of Ericsson’s networks by deepening the understanding of network requirements, driving technology leadership, and expanding our patent portfolio for connected devices and demonstrating thought leadership by publishing in leading scientific journals and conferences. We collaborate closely with other team within Ericsson Research, engage in external research projects, and maintain strong partnerships with academic institutions.

This role is based at Ericsson headquarters in Kista, equipped with a robotics lab and indoor/outdoor 5G/6G testbeds.

 

What you will do:

As Research Leader, you will contribute to driving the technical strategy of the team while also serving as line manager for its members. The role offers creative freedom to define the team’s research direction and goals. You will represent the team across various research programs within Ericsson Research, collaborate with stakeholders across business areas, and engage with external partners in academia and industry.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Coach, mentor, and support the professional growth of the team members.
  • Recruit top talents to build a strong, diverse, and high performing team.
  • Derive strategic objectives and research targets that align with Ericsson’s long-term vision.
  • Establish and oversee the research activities, ensuring successful execution and impactful outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including other units within Ericsson Research, the IPR & Licensing organization, and business areas.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners such as universities, research institutes, and industry collaborators.
  • Act as a role model by living and promoting Ericsson’s core values: Professionalism, Respect, Collaboration, Perseverance, and Integrity.

 

The skills you bring:

  • A Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Automatic Control, Robotics, Machine Learning, Signal Processing, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally in managing teams or projects and a strong ability to coach and support researchers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently identify, define, and address complex challenges.
  • Creativity and a proactive mindset, with a passion for developing and promoting innovative ways of working that enhance research efficiency and impact.
  • Direct experience in innovation processes and patent creation.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain professional networks, both within the organization and externally.
  • A collaborative mindset with a commitment to knowledge sharing and team success.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills in English, both written and verbal.
