To Boliden's Department of Mine Waste and Water Management


The Department for Mine Waste and Water Management is a technical expert function which is tasked with, among other things, developing our common working procedures, supporting and quality-assuring Boliden Mines’ work regarding responsible mine waste and water management, as well as conducting business intelligence and research in the area. At the department, today, majority of the employees are development engineers with broad knowledge and good experience in civil engineering, tailings management and dam safety, water management, mine closure and geochemistry. We are now strengthening the department with a development engineer with expertise in hydrogeology.


About the role

You will work broadly with hydrogeological questions across Boliden Mine’s value chain, from planning and collaboration with exploration, to support for our business units and at facilities that are to be closed or need additional closure rehabilitation measures.


As a development engineer with expertise in hydrogeology, your work will include:

• support the organization with groundwater expertise ensuring the correct investigations and monitoring are done over the project’s life cycle with respect to groundwater,

• write technical, as well as general, reports with a focus on hydrogeology and groundwater,

• support activities in control and monitoring of groundwater,

• conduct quality assurance and if necessary, plan, order and be responsible for carrying out groundwater investigations and modelling,

• develop internal requirements. standard methods and guidelines with respect to groundwater and contribute to implement Boliden Mines overall water stewardship strategy,

• collaborate and coordinate Boliden's business units and other departments to ensure hydrogeological knowledge transfer,

• drive competence development within the company.


The position is a permanent position with a location in one of our sites Boliden, Stockholm, Aitik, Garpenberg, Kevitsa or Tara. Travel with accompanying overnight stays is included in the work. Commencement upon agreement

Your qualifications

We want you to be a trained engineer or equivalent and have documented many years of experience in groundwater technology and hydrogeological investigations, preferably in the mining industry. We would like to see that your main experience consists of groundwater issues in the context mining and permitting of mines, and that you have worked with planning as well as implementation and evaluation of hydraulic tests in soil and rock. If you have worked with analytical calculations of hydrogeological problems such as assessment of subsidence in soil and rock, seepage into underground facilities and open pits as well as the impact on surface water, these are advantageous, as well as work with conceptual and numerical groundwater models. Experience of work within groups where hydrogeology, geochemistry, material properties and environmental load assessed together is meritorious, as is work with assessing flows through different cover systems.
