Section Manager – Mine Planning

Metals exist and are needed everywhere. Boliden extracts minerals and produces metals with high quality in a cost effective manner. The work is characterized by a concern for people, the environment and society. Boliden Mines staff function has approximately 250 employees and includes, among other departments Technology, Exploration, Business Development, HR & Sustainability.

The task of the mining engineering department is to support the mines within the Business Area Mines in everything from problem solving and methodological support in operations to project planning for new areas in the mines and evaluation of new deposits. The mining engineering department also includes the sections for Rock Mechanics and Production Engineering.

Work duties

The mine planning section administers the systems for mine design, surveying and planning, and supports
and develops planning methods. The section’s engineers participate in the choice of mining method, mine design and calculation work for the company’s concept and feasibility studies.

The planning section currently consists of 7 employees. As section manager, you will report to the manager of the mining engineering department. You will plan, manage and allocate work within the section. You will be responsible for developing staff and working methods, and will carry out your own engineering assignments. 

You will maintain customer contact with the mine planning departments at all the mines. 

Many of the projects involve contact with suppliers, consultants, universities and colleges, within Sweden and abroad. Each year, we have a number of undergraduate students and interns who are supervised by the section manager.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Boliden. Some business travel will be required, as the assignments for the mines are to some extent carried out at the relevant mine. The starting date is subject to agreement.

Education and qualifications

You should be a graduate engineer with training in mining and construction engineering, or the equivalent, with experience of mine planning and design. 

The work requires good interpersonal skills, a desire and knowledge to lead others, and good knowledge of Swedish labour law. As a person, we would expect you to have the ability to work in an organised way towards long-term strategic goals. 

You should be able to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English. A category B driving licence is a requirement.
