Development Engineer in Hydrometallurgy

Metals are found and needed everywhere. Boliden extracts minerals and produces high-quality metals in a cost-effective manner. The work is characterised by care for people, the environment and society. Boliden Staff Function Mines has around 300 employees and includes the Engineering, Exploration and HR & Sustainability departments.

Boliden also aims to be one of the technologically leading players in the mining industry globally. Therefore, the Process Engineering Department is now looking for someone who wants to help develop the hydrometallurgical processes of the future for extracting high-tech metals, such as cobalt.

The Process Engineering Department, with its 24 employees, is part of Engineering. The primary task of the department is to support the concentrators within the Mines Business Area in everything from problem solving in operations to feasibility planning for new facilities and processes. In recent years, hydrometallurgy has become an increasingly important method for extracting metals that traditional concentration techniques cannot deal with, such as cobalt and tellurium. Process engineering also works extensively with Boliden’s own environmental department to develop and improve water purification and reclamation technologies. We are also carrying out many projects that involve the exploration department in surveys for new deposits. In order to solve these tasks, Process Engineering has a very well-equipped pilot plant and laboratory.

Work duties

As a senior development engineer in hydrometallurgy, you will mainly get to work on the development of new hydrometallurgical processes and optimisation of the existing water processes. You will also be involved in various types of water purification projects, and will be given basic technical knowledges of other types of concentration techniques used at Boliden.

Process engineering work is conducted as assignments or in project form, and your role may involve being both project manager and participant in the project group. This work is mainly focused on the concentrators and our own R&D programme, but there may also be other clients, both internally and externally.

This will be a permanent full-time position. You will initially be based at Boliden, but other locations may become relevant, depending on the needs of the applicant. The starting date is subject to agreement.

Education and qualifications

You should be a graduate engineer or equivalent, preferably with training in minerals engineering or chemical engineering. As the job involves a high degree of personal responsibility, it is important that you can work independently. The work requires good interpersonal skills, and proficiency in both written and spoken Swedish and English. A category B driving licence is a requirement.
